Purposeful Paths
I was a guest on a podcast today.
The backstory…
It was late 2023, and I was snuggled into my favorite corner of my couch, utterly absorbed in the gripping Netflix documentary series "Bad Surgeon - Love Under The Knife." My memoir, "These Broken Roads: Scammed and Vindicated, One Woman’s Story," had just celebrated its one-month anniversary, and I was still riding the waves of excitement from my book launch and cabaret show.
My press tour had taken me on a journey of sharing my story of survival and empowerment, and I was always on the lookout for stories that echoed those themes.
On that particular evening, the face of Benita Alexander, an Emmy Award-winning producer and correspondent from Dateline NBC, filled my screen. She bravely recounted her harrowing experience of being love-scammed by a world-renowned surgeon, whose sinister actions turned her once-idyllic life into chaos.
I was riveted by her tale of uncovering his dark secrets and reclaiming her power. That night, as I drifted off to sleep, I found myself rooting for her, inspired by her remarkable courage and resilience.
Fast forward to a month ago, when a neighbor, someone I’d previously taken Zumba classes with, casually mentioned that her friend—a podcast host dedicated to empowering women—would not only love my book but would probably be thrilled to have me as a guest on her show. She promised to pass along my contact details to see if there was interest and would keep me in the loop.
At the time, I thought nothing of it.
But when my neighbor called back a few days later, her enthusiasm was palpable. Her friend was indeed interested in having me as a guest on her podcast.
Cool.
Intrigued, I tuned in to the YouTube Channel, "Benita & The Berracas" to learn more about her friend and what I might expect.
I froze.
Wait…”
Could it be…?
That Benita!
The very Dateline NBC correspondent/producer whose Netflix story had captivated me that evening in 2023?
Yes.
It was none other than the Emmy award winner, Benita Alexander.
Earlier today, I had the honor of engaging in a conversation with Miss Alexander and her co-host, Nancy Cumba, who graciously welcomed me to their podcast. Our discussion was rich with insight, vulnerability, and authenticity, as we discussed my memoir and story of survival.
Watching Benita’s thrilling three-part documentary and later speaking with my neighbor seems like two separate, distinct events; yet life has a remarkable way of weaving together seemingly disparate threads into a grand tapestry. It serves as a profound reminder that there are no mistakes or coincidences; everything aligns as part of a bigger plan.
We must trust the divine process, stand in our truth with intention and without shame, and approach each day with hope, gratitude, and an open heart.
And above all…love yourself.
In the end, it all works out.
Somehow.
I hope my episode resonates with her listeners who may need to hear my story. To be reminded that they are not alone in this sometimes terrifying, unpredictable, and callous world.
I will share the airing details as soon as they become available.
Be encouraged ROCKSTARS and have some fun this weekend.
