Just Dance
Even the Steps Backward Are Part of the Dance
Dancing is one of my favorite hobbies, and I will dance to practically any genre of music.
It’s an exhilarating escape.
Everything else fades away as my body glides, becoming one with the music, lost in its vibrant, pulsating energy.
I get even giddier when the DJ queues up the music for synchronized dances like the Electric Slide, the Wobble, the Cha Cha Slide, and the Jerusalema choreography, etc. The dance floor fills up, and the excited energy flows through and around us as we move in time and harmony - twisting, turning, kicking, stomping, and shimmying.
The dance floor is truly one of my happy places, and if it were up to me, I’d dance until the lights dim and they politely ask me to leave. I’ve even broken into spontaneous dance while walking outside if I hear a song I love, much to the amusement (or chagrin) of whoever is with me!
In life, as on the dance floor, joy and authenticity are the ultimate moves and the same rules apply.
Don’t watch from the sidelines like a timid observer. Move to the center, hands waving from side to side, and step into the rhythm of all the joy that awaits you.
Above all, be yourself! Enjoy the moment. Don’t take things too seriously. Perfection is not necessary. Be spontaneous. A partner is optional. It’s ok to be unsure. Have FUN!
If dancing is not your cup of tea, do whatever brings you blissful joy. Maybe it’s painting, gardening, scrapbooking, singing, winemaking, jogging, volunteering, bird watching, or even fancy hat-wearing. Whatever! Lean unapologetically into your passions and express yourself in whatever ways work for you - because only you can express YOU.
But if you’re like me and dancing fills you with giddy happiness, make it a point to dance often—whether in your living room, at a dance class, in front of your mirror, or on a dance floor.
Never worry about what others think! You are not competing with or trying to impress anyone, just enjoy the moment.
Take the risks. For you.
Add some flair and shimmy. For you.
Be that bold. For you.
Friends, life, like dancing, is meant to be enjoyed. There will be awkward moments, trips, falls, and missteps. Don’t stress. Fix your crown and keep moving, because even the backward steps are part of the dance.
So lean into the challenges, sway with the chaos, shimmy through the fears, and cherish each day as a gift of another sweet opportunity to have a blast.
I hope you’ll dance this week Rockstars.
You are good enough.
Better yet.
You ARE enough!
